Spotlight: Kalaheo, Hawaii
Located in southern Kauai, Kalaheo has
much to offer visitors and residents alike. Its lush, tropical
landscape, sunny days, and beautiful beaches nearby create a paradise
on Earth. Kalaheo is home to the National Tropical Botanical Garden,
showcasing rare tropical plants from around the world. Kalaheo has a
population of about 4,000 residents, though its numbers have been
growing in recent years as more and more people discover this hidden
gem.

Beach
Just a few miles from Kalaheo, Poipu Beach draws not only surfers, sunbathers, and snorkelers, but Hawaiian Monk Seals, too. Poipu Beach is so welcoming that these normally shy creatures have made it a favored sunning spot. The golden sand crescents of Poipu Beach are ideal for romantic sunset walks, wading in the frothy surf, or just dozing in the sunshine. Cool breezes and crystal blue waters invite you to linger and relax. Water sports Water lovers will find so much to do in the Kalaheo area. In addition to swimming, snorkeling, and diving, you can take a sea kayak trip off the southern coast of Kauai. Along the way, you'll find golden, sandy beaches that you can't get to by car. You may be lucky enough to paddle amongst sea turtles, dolphins, seals, and even humpback whales. Surfing and sport fishing are popular pastimes, too. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, Kaihuna is home to the remains of an ancient Hawaiian village. Just minutes from Poipu Beach, Kiahuna delights the eye with its lovely ocean views and soothing greenery. Streams and lakes provide challenging water hazards, and Mt. Waialeale creates a dramatic backdrop to the gentle fairways. |
